Photo Tour Namib Crossing
Available for individual booking

Crossing the Namib Desert from Lüderitz to Swakopmund is a top-class adventure. The vast dunes of the coastal and fog desert stretch all the way to the sea, creating a unique backdrop.

A 500-kilometer strip along the coast is part of the diamond mining restricted area and can only be accessed with special permission and as part of a guided tour.
Together with my local partner, I have put together a special private photography tour for you. To be at the best locations in the best light, we set up our camps at ideal spots. To ensure enough time for photography, the tour has been extended by two days compared to regular tours.

Our 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers are specially equipped for this desert journey. Each vehicle is equipped with ground tents and ample camping gear. On the roof and in the large luggage compartment at the back of the vehicle, there is plenty of room for drinking water, fuel, and personal gear.

Arrival in Windhoek. The leisure day. You can explore Windhoek on your own or relax at the hotel. In the evening, we will have a group dinner and prepare for the tour.
Overnight stay at a hotel in Windhoek.

Day 3

Today, we set off early. The program includes a drive to Keetmanshoop to see the Quiver Trees (540 km / 6 hours). In the afternoon, we arrive at the Quivertree Forest campsite. After setting up our tents, we begin searching for the best photographic opportunities among the Quiver Trees, which are plentiful in the surrounding area.
Overnight in tents.

Day 4

Before sunrise, we head out in search of more fascinating photographic subjects. After breakfast, we continue our journey to Lüderitz on the Atlantic coast (370 km / 4 hours). In the late afternoon, we take a tour of the old diamond town of Kolmanskop. The interplay of light and colors in the old buildings is a true paradise for photographers.
Overnight at a hotel in Lüderitz.

Day 5

Today marks the start of our 9-day journey through the Namib Desert. After securing essential supplies like water, fuel, and food, we set off. Our guides know the route extremely well. After a brief «getting-to-know» period, we tackle our first dunes, ensuring a fun ride.
Overnight in tents.

Day 6- 12

The next days follow a similar pattern. In the mornings, we search for great spots to photograph the sunrise near our camp. After breakfast, we pack up and get ready to hit the road. Our guides set the pace as we drive through the stunning desert landscape, knowing the key spots and avoiding possible pitfalls caused by the tide.
The landscape and photo opportunities are ever-changing and endless. We pass seemingly impassable seas of dunes, flatter rocky areas, and smaller dunes that change colors constantly.
From time to time, we encounter seal colonies, which announce their presence miles in advance by scent. We are also sure to spot cormorants, seagulls, and jackals.

The remains of the diamond boom are scattered throughout the region. Abandoned ghost towns, shipwrecks, and various other machines offer fantastic photo opportunities along the way.
Depending on our progress, we take short lunch breaks. By late afternoon, we typically reach our camp. After setting up, we head out for more photographic exploration. Meanwhile, our crew prepares a delicious dinner. We end the day with a glass of wine or a cold beer.
Overnight in tents.

Day 13

Today, our Namib Desert crossing ends in Walvis Bay. We’ve conquered the last dunes, and the ground becomes smoother. We say goodbye to our crew and continue to Swakopmund. Back in civilization, we’re looking forward to a well-deserved shower. The afternoon is for relaxing. There is an optional scenic flight (not included in the program). Perhaps you’d like to see some of the key locations from the past days from the air.
Overnight at a hotel in Swakopmund.

Day 14

We begin the day with something special. Together with guide Chris, we explore the Dorob National Park in search of the «Little Five.» Chris’s sensitivity to desert creatures is impressive. Where we see only sand, Chris spots dazzling creatures such as the Dancing White Lady, various Tok Tokkies, the desert chameleon, the sand-dwelling gecko, the Sidewinder, desert scorpions, and many more. They are all uniquely adapted to this ecosystem and can survive thanks to desert grains and «fog milk».

After lunch, we head to our day’s destination, Spitzkoppe. The 1,728-meter island mountain towers 700 meters above its surroundings. Due to its distinctive shape, it is often referred to as the «Matterhorn of Namibia» and is one of the most photographed mountains in the country. We enjoy our final camping night under the starry sky.
Overnight camping.

Day 15 & 16

The last two days of our Namibia tour are spent at Mount Etjo Lodge. In addition to private game drives, the lodge offers special photographic opportunities in ground-level hides. The group will be divided for the hide visits.
During the game drives, we are likely to see birds, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, and many other species such as horses, antelopes, and zebras.
Overnight at the lodge.

Day 17

After the morning game drive, we return to Windhoek. We will have a nice dinner and reflect on the tour.

Day 18

Today, we’ll fly back or begin an extension of your trip.

Day 19

Arrival in your home country.

Looking forward to an incredible journey!
